Job summary

Muskegon Community College seeks qualified candidates for a Professional Tutor in the Writing Center. This pool position supports students with one-on-one and small group instruction to strengthen writing skills and academic success.

Responsibilities include guiding students through writing processes, delivering workshops, and collaborating with faculty. The role requires flexibility to work evenings or weekends and a commitment to inclusive, ethical student support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Bilingual Spanish/English preferred but not required.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and initiate work with students independently.
• Experience using Microsoft Office and Zoom; TracCloud is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate writing as a guide and coach to assist the student to become a successful, independent writer.
• Facilitate an increase and enhancement in student mastery of writing.
• Integrate effective strategies to maximize the student’s potential for improved writing and academic progress.
• Mentor and assist students and peer writing tutors as needed.
• Maintain records and assist in maintaining the professional appearance of the Writing Center area.
