Job summary

Heartland Pet Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to triage, assist with nursing care, collect lab samples, and support imaging and surgical prep. You will communicate treatment plans to clients and help deliver high-quality care for pets in our Bellevue, Nebraska service area.

Candidates should have at least 1 year of veterinary assistant experience, a cooperative attitude, and a willingness to grow with the clinic.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year veterinary assistant experience required.
• Willing to learn and grow within the clinic and maintain a positive attitude.
• Potential to transition to full-time in the future; strong teamwork emphasized.

Responsibilities

• Triage patients and assist with nursing care and management.
• Collect and analyze lab samples; perform basic diagnostic tasks.
• Assist with diagnostic imaging and radiographs; support surgical prep.
• Communicate treatment plans clearly with clients; education when needed.
• Adhere to safety and hygiene protocols; handle unpleasant odors/noises professionally.

We provide surgeries including but not limited to dental cleanings, tumor and mass removal, spaying and neutering, orthopedic procedures, declawing, and more. Our team understands that pet health goes beyond physical performance, therefore we provide behavioral and nutritional counseling.

Job Description

Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications

Must have at least 1 year experience in veterinary assistant duties. Willing to learn and grow within our clinic and keep a positive attitude. May lead to a full-time position in the future. Communication and team work are a must here at Heartland Pet Hospital, we like for everyone to understand the "why," they are completing a task or providing client education to our wonderful clientele.

• An experienced Veterinary Assistant with a minimum of 1-year experience required.
• Compassionate, Calm, Team Player, Multi-Tasker and Strong Communicator
• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Proficient in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs, and anesthesia monitoring are a bonus!
• Self-starter with the desire to continue to advance your knowledge and skillset.
