CSN is seeking part-time tutors for the Centers for Academic Success to help students clarify learning challenges, strengthen study skills, and reinforce course material. Tutors work up to 20 hours per week, with a combined limit if also employed elsewhere.

Part‑time Tutor – Centers for Academic Success

CSN is seeking part‑time tutors to support students through the Centers for Academic Success. Tutors assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them in person or online to clarify learning challenges, strengthen study skills, and reinforce course material.

Core Responsibilities

• Provide tutoring to students as an employee of Centers for Academic Success.
• Assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them in person or online to clarify learning problems and work on study skills.
• Review class material, discuss best approaches to reading the text, predict test questions, formulate ideas for papers, and work on solutions to problems.
• Provide support that supplements classroom teaching.

Qualifications

• At least 12 hours of undergraduate work with an earned overall college GPA of at least 3.0 (transcripts must be submitted).
• Earned a B or higher in the subject applying to tutor.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills while working with students from varied backgrounds and skill levels.
• Knowledge of effective study skills and strategies during tutoring sessions and interviews.
• Previous tutorial experience in subject matter is a definite plus.
• Recommendation from a faculty member that teaches the subject you wish to tutor.

Work Hour Requirements

The maximum amount of hours a tutor can work in the Centers is 20 hours per week. If you are also employed at another department at CSN or any other Nevada State Higher Education Institution, your hours will be combined and you cannot exceed 29 hours at both locations per week.

Salary

$15.00 per hour (contingent upon education level).
