Job summary

College of Southern Nevada seeks tutors to help students improve academic achievement by meeting in person or online, clarifying learning challenges, strengthening study skills, and reinforcing course material. Tutoring supplements classroom instruction and may include review of material, reading strategies, and problem solving.

Sessions can be conducted in person or online. The maximum is 20 hours per week; combined with other CSN duties limited to 29 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• Have at least 12 hours of undergraduate work with an earned overall college grade point average of at least 3.0 (transcripts must be submitted)
• Have earned a B or higher in the subject you are applying to tutor
• Demonstrate effective communication and intercersonal skills while working with students from varied backgrounds and skill levels
• Demonstrate knowledge of effective study skills and strategies during interview and tutoring sessions
• Having previous tutorial experience in subject matter is a definite plus
• Provide a recommendation from a faculty member that teaches the subject you wish to tutor

Responsibilities

• Tutor students to clarify learning challenges and reinforce course material
• Review class material and discuss effective reading strategies
• Predict test questions, form ideas for papers, and work through solutions to problems
• Supplement classroom instruction through tutoring sessions
