Job Description

The Nursing Department has openings for Part-Time RN Lab Tutors to support student learning and skills practice within the nursing laboratories and simulation environment.

Reporting directly to the Simulation Lab Manager and/or Program Director, the RN Lab Tutor assists students with the use of nursing skills equipment and supplies and provides support for class labs and during open laboratory sessions. The RN Lab Tutor assists students in practicing clinical skills and procedures previously taught in lecture, provides guidance on the use of laboratory equipment and supplies, and utilizes instructor-provided skills checklists to support student learning. This position supports a positive learning environment by promoting student confidence, engagement, and safe use of laboratory resources.

Non-Instructional Role Clarification

The position of RN Lab Tutor is NOT a teaching, educational, or instructional role. The RN Lab Tutor is prohibited from providing formal classroom or clinical instruction, assigning grades, evaluating student performance, or independently teaching new content. RN Lab Tutors may assist students with the physical use of laboratory equipment and facilitate practice of skills and procedures that have already been taught by nursing faculty using approved course materials and instructor-provided skills checklists.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Support
  • Assist students during class laboratory or open laboratory sessions with the operation and use of nursing skills equipment and supplies.
  • Answer questions regarding the physical use and function of laboratory equipment.
  • Support student practice of clinical skills and procedures previously taught in lecture and laboratory settings.
  • Utilize instructor-provided skills checklists to guide student practice and reinforce established course expectations.
Laboratory Operations
  • Assist with the setup, organization, and breakdown of laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure equipment is available, functional, and properly maintained for student use.
  • Maintain laboratory spaces in a clean, organized, and professional condition.
Safety and Compliance

Promote safe handling and use of nursing laboratory equipment and supplies. Adhere to all departmental, institutional, and OSHA safety guidelines. Maintain security of laboratory equipment and resources.

Communication and Professionalism
  • Demonstrate professional and respectful communication with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty and program administrators to support student success.
  • Provide timely communication regarding equipment concerns, supply needs, or student issues requiring faculty follow-up.
Physical Requirements
  • Stamina: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during laboratory sessions.
  • Mobility: Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and maneuver laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to operate nursing skills equipment and perform fine motor tasks.
  • Strength: Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current unrestricted Nevada Registered Nurse (RN) License.
  • BSN
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to travel between CSN campuses as needed.
  • Masters Degree in Nursing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with undergraduate nursing students.
  • Previous tutoring, mentoring, precepting, or educational support experience.
  • Experience in nursing skills laboratory, simulation, clinical education, or staff development environments.
Salary Information

$28.45 per hour. Ability to work flexible schedules including days, evenings, and occasional weekends. ExemptNo Full-Time Equivalent 48.8%
