Job summary

College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is seeking part-time tutors for the Henderson Campus to support students through the Centers for Academic Success. Tutors meet with students in person or online to clarify learning challenges, strengthen study skills, and reinforce course material, supplementing classroom instruction.

Requirements include at least 12 undergraduate hours with a 3.0 GPA, a B or higher in the tutor subject, and strong communication/interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

• Have at least 12 hours of undergraduate work with an earned overall college GPA of at least 3.0 (transcripts must be submitted)
• Have earned a B or higher in the subject for which you are applying to tutor
• Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills while working with students from varied backgrounds and skill levels
• Demonstrate knowledge of effective study skills and strategies during interview and tutoring sessions
• Having previous tutorial experience in the subject matter is a definite plus
• Provide a recommendation from a faculty member that teaches the subject you wish to tutor

Responsibilities

• Tutors assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them in person or online to clarify learning challenges, strengthen study skills, and reinforce course material
• Tutoring may include reviewing class material, discussing effective reading strategies, predicting test questions, formulating ideas for papers, and working through solutions to problems
• Tutoring is intended to supplement classroom instruction
