Job summary

Minot Family YMCA is seeking a Swim Instructor to provide direct leadership, instruction, and motivation in swim classes. You will adhere to YMCA guidelines, create lesson plans, and foster a positive, welcoming environment for participants and families.

The role emphasizes safety, record-keeping, equipment checks, and collaboration with staff to deliver high-quality aquatics programs.

Qualifications

Must be at least 15 years of age.
Lifeguard certification preferred but not required.
Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED and First Aid.
Must demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all backgrounds.
Familiarize self with YMCA rules and policies within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

Instruct swimming lessons per YMCA guidelines with prepared lesson plans.
Build positive relationships with participants, families and staff.
Maintain attendance and progress records.
Perform equipment checks and ensure availability of gear.
Check pool for hazards and report issues.
Train and supervise class aides as assigned.
Greet and assist members and volunteers in a courteous, friendly manner.
Respond to member needs and resolve customer service problems.
Assist in maintenance duties (sweeping, mopping, cleanliness).
Know YMCA rules, policies and emergency procedures; act as control center during emergencies.
Share program information using handouts and schedules.
Stay updated on swim lesson and aquatics trends to support members.
