Job summary

Cook County YMCA in Grand Marais, MN is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor to provide direct leadership and motivation in swimming classes. You will prepare lessons, train aides, and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for youth.

Strong safety standards and YMCA policies will guide daily operations. Qualifications include CPR for the Professional Rescuer, basic first aid, and YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent within 6 months.

Qualifications

• Certified in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid or obtain within 30 days of employment.
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent preferred or obtain within 6 months through the YMCA.
• At least 16 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons, trained and supervises class aides as assigned.
• Builds relationships with students and parents; promotes program involvement.
• Maintains attendance and progress records.
• Follows YMCA safety policies and completes incident reports as needed.
• Sets up and stores class equipment; reports damages.
• Opportunity for private swim lessons when available.
• Fosters inclusive environment and supports equity and diversity.
• Support mission advancement and recruit volunteers when appropriate.
• Collaborates with staff to enhance member experience and learning.
