Job summary

Lake Superior YMCA in Hermantown, MN seeks a part-time Aquatics Leader to provide direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes. You will prepare lesson plans, supervise aides, and foster a safe, inclusive environment around the pool.

The role emphasizes building relationships with families, tracking progress, following safety procedures, and supporting equity and diversity initiatives. Some private lessons may be offered; hours vary with the aquatics schedule.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16.
• CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid, and Oxygen (preferred).
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent preferred or obtain YMCA Swim Instructor certification within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons, prepared lesson plans, trains and supervises class aides.
• Builds effective relationships with students and parents; encourages parent involvement and refers to other programs as needed.
• Maintains attendance and progress records.
• Follows YMCA policies, safety procedures, and completes incident/accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes class equipment and reports damaged equipment.
• Opportunity for private swim lessons upon availability.
• Fosters inclusive environment and supports equity and diversity initiatives.
