Job summary

Washtenaw Community College seeks a Part time Student Advisor to provide academic advising, assist with registration, and support the Advising and Coaching department. The role is part-time with up to 20 hours per week on campus, and it does not guarantee conversion to full-time.

The incumbent will advise students via drop-in sessions, inform them of policies, manage the advising inbox and portal tasks, collaborate with instructors and student services staff, and use AI-supported tools

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required.
• At least two years of college-level advising or related work.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and distance/online students.
• Experience with online tools (email, chat, Zoom) and LMS.
• Knowledge of degree audits and student information systems.

Responsibilities

• Advise and document student interactions regarding degree and career requirements, course selection, academic status, and class expectations.
• Primarily serve students via drop-in advising.
• Inform students of academic policies and procedures.
• Assist with registration and portal changes and override requests.
• Provide advising assistance in triage via phone, Zoom, and advising chat.
• Monitor the advising chat queue and Help Desk After Hours list.
• Develop and maintain relationships with other Student Services staff and faculty to exchange information.
• Refer students to Licensed Professional Counselors as needed and to assigned advisors.
• Utilize AI-enabled tools to support teaching, learning, and service while upholding ethics and confidentiality.
• Other duties as assigned.
