Job summary

Family Dollar is seeking an Assistant Store Manager in East Orange, NJ to support store operations, customer service, and team development. You will assist with daily store activities, organize merchandise, and ensure clean, well-stocked floors, while following company policies and safety guidelines.

The role emphasizes leadership in coaching Store Associates, maintaining a positive customer environment, and ensuring accurate payroll and cash handling.

Qualifications

• High school diploma preferred; ability to read, interpret, and explain directives.
• Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store preferred.
• Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs. and perform physical tasks in a retail environment.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills required.
• Ability to work in a high-energy, team environment.
• Excellent customer service and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with store functions and day-to-day activities.
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns.
• Organize and transfer merchandise from delivery truck to stockroom to sales floor and maintain seasonal areas.
• Perform opening and closing procedures as needed.
• Process corporate directives and communications related to store activities.
• Maintain store fixtures, displays, and promotional effectiveness.
• Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, payroll, scheduling, and cash handling.
• Maintain a clean, well-stocked sales floor and organized stockroom to company standards.
• Protect and secure store assets including cash.
• Adhere to safety policies and ensure staff compliance.
• Help Store Manager supervise, train, and develop Store Associates.
• Ensure a positive, safe, respectful environment for customers and staff.
• Maintain store cleanliness including bathrooms, floors, trash, and restrooms.
• Other duties as assigned.
