Job summary

Launch Math + Science Centers in New York is seeking part-time instructors to lead afterschool STEM classes in Astoria and Sunnyside, Queens. You will teach in partner schools, using the Launch curriculum and hands-on projects.

The role emphasizes engaging students, building confidence, and communicating with program coordinators. Scratch coding and a passion for math and science are essential, with about 2–3 hours per assignment at $25 per hour.

Qualifications

• Subject matter expertise in sciences, tech, or math; passion for building hands-on projects.
• Ability to code using Scratch is a requirement.
• Flexible schedule and ability to commit to servicing students for an extended duration.
• Previous experience working with students as a tutor or in a similar capacity.

Responsibilities

• Provide top quality instruction utilizing Launch methods, curriculum, and provided materials.
• Enthusiastically engage students during instructional sessions.
• Help students gain confidence in their ability to learn and succeed.
• Constantly assess and consider ways to improve classroom experience.
• Maintain regular communications with the Launch Program Coordinators.
• For STEM classes, teach subject matter expertise and build hands-on projects.
• Demonstrate a passion and skill for engaging kids in learning.
• Be personable, friendly, reliable and communicative.
• Show willingness to commit to an extended duration, preferably a full academic year.
• Support students in developing a love for math and science.
• Adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs and pace.
• Utilize provided curriculum and materials; no lesson planning required.
