Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support under a Provider and/or licensed Nurse. The role interfaces with patients and families, prepares patients for exams, records vitals, and may perform phlebotomy and medication administration per policy.

Responsibilities include data collection for care plans, lab specimen handling, and accurate documentation in the school medical record, plus department tasks like POCT and screenings.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
• Experience in healthcare environment is preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
• Experience with electronic medical records (EPIC) or similar software is preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant Certificate Program (MA), EMT, or Paramedic Program is required; those hired without this may receive credit for experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) training from the American Heart Association is required.
• Medical Assistant certification (CMA or RMA) preferred.
• Years of relevant experience: no experience required

Responsibilities

• Actively interfaces with patients and families of Akron Children’s Hospitals
• Prepares patients for examination; takes and records vital signs; performs phlebotomy as needed; administers medications as directed by the Providers according to policy and procedure
• Collects data that contributes to the assessment and evaluation of individualized care and needs of assigned patients, including discharge plans, under the direction of the Licensed Nurse
• Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens in accordance with policy and procedure
• Communicates patient findings and pertinent information to the Provider and/or Licensed Nurse utilizing appropriate communication/documentation processes
• Accurate and timely documentation of care within the school medical record
• Performs clinical duties that are department specific such as POCT, hearing and vision screenings, and any other procedures
• Perform routine task and general office duties such as faxing, copying, filing, etc. as needed
• Cleans, stocks, and prepares examination rooms
• Develops and maintains positive relationships with patients/students, families, school personnel and colleagues
• Completes all assignments during scheduled working hours
• Follows safety policies and procedures in the delivery of care to assure a safe environment for patients, families, and other staff members
