Job summary

Akron Children's is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support for patients under the direction of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse. The role emphasizes teamwork with school staff and families to ensure smooth patient flow and accurate record keeping.

Responsibilities include preparing patients for exams, taking vitals, phlebotomy as needed, assisting with medications, collecting specimens, documenting in the medical record, and performing routine clerical tasks

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an MA certificate program, EMT, or paramedic program required; experience may substitute.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Medical Assistant certification (CMA or RMA) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with patients and families.
• Prepares patients for examination; takes vitals; performs phlebotomy as needed; administers medications as directed.
• Collects data for assessment and discharge planning under supervision.
• Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens.
• Communicates findings to the Provider or Nurse with proper documentation.
• Accurate documentation in the school medical record.
• Performs department-specific clinical duties (POCT, vision/hearing screenings).
• Handles routine office tasks (faxing, copying, filing).
• Cleans, stocks, and prepares examination rooms.
• Develops positive relationships with patients, families, school personnel, and colleagues.
• Follows safety policies to ensure a safe environment.
• Other duties as assigned.
