Job summary

Smart & Final in Bakersfield, CA is hiring a Part-time Retail Associate to join our store operations team. You’ll provide friendly service, stock shelves, assist customers, and help maintain a clean, organized store.

Starting pay is $16.90 per hour. The role requires reading and writing English, basic PC/Outlook skills, and the ability to lift up to 60 pounds. This position offers opportunities for growth within the Smart & Final family.

Qualifications

• Read and write English; interact with the general public and co-workers.
• Read and comprehend simple instructions, product labels, shelf tags, short correspondence, and memos.
• Write simple correspondence.
• Present information in one-on-one and small group settings to customers and staff.
• Understand and follow written or oral instructions.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 60 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a store section and stock merchandise using basic equipment.
• Ensure proper pricing and rotate stock; check product date codes.
• Prepare perishable products for sale as needed.
• Set up advertising/promotional displays.
• Clean and maintain sanitation in the store and parking lot.
• Offer friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous assistance to customers.
• Load customer purchases by assisting customers to their vehicles.
• Perform basic bookkeeping duties, including recording lost/damaged goods and store supplies.
