Job summary

University of Hong Kong's Centre for Information Technology in Education within the Faculty of Education invites applications for a Part-time Research Assistant I/II to work on longitudinal digital literacy assessment project in Hong Kong.

The role involves liaising with schools, administering assessments, data management, and basic analyses, with occasional development/translation tasks. 12-month period, hourly-paid arrangement, strong English and Cantonese skills required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, statistics, computer science or a related field.
• Competence in a data-analysis environment such as R or Python.
• Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; Cantonese fluency preferred for school work.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with schools to arrange assessment sessions and assist with consent from teachers and parents.
• Administer computer-based assessments in schools and supervise student participants.
• Manage and securely store assessment and questionnaire data per ethical protocols.
• Assist with statistical analyses and preparation of reports, presentations and publications.
• Support development, translation and review of assessment tasks and questionnaires.
• Carry out other duties assigned by the Principal Investigator.

Part-time Research Assistant I / II in the Centre for Information Technology in Education within the Faculty of Education (Ref.: 537491).

To commence as soon as possible for 12 months.

Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant I / II in the Centre for Information Technology in Education (CITE), Faculty of Education, to work on the project Longitudinal Research of Learning in the Digital World, funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and carried out in partnership with the OECD. The project is developing and validating an assessment of digital literacy for Primary 4 to Secondary 3 students across Hong Kong schools, with data collected annually over several years.

Duties and Responsibilities

• liaise with participating schools to arrange assessment sessions, and support the consent process with teachers and parents;
• administer computer-based assessment sessions in schools and supervise student participants;
• manage assessment and questionnaire data, including cleaning, coding, documentation and secure storage under the approved ethics protocol;
• assist with statistical and psychometric analyses, and with the preparation of reports, presentations and publications;
• assist with the development, translation and review of assessment tasks and questionnaires; and
• carry out other duties assigned by the Principal Investigator.

Requirements

• a bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, statistics, computer science or a related field; a master’s degree is an advantage;
• competence in a data-analysis environment such as R or Python;
• a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Cantonese for work in schools;
• strong organisational skills and attention to detail; and
• the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Experience in educational assessment, psychometrics, school-based research or work with primary and secondary schools is an advantage.
