Job summary

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) invites applications for a Part-time Research Assistant II in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. The appointee will support a study on self-compassion interventions for transgender and gender diverse individuals, working under the Principal Investigator Dr Polly Ma.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in related fields, willingness to work weekends, and proficiency in Cantonese and/or English.

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Public Health, or related disciplines (or equivalent).
• Empathy, cultural sensitivity, and comfort with diverse gender identities and expressions.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in spoken Cantonese and/or English to facilitate participant interaction.

Responsibilities

• Participate in workshop sessions with gender minority participants.
• Undergo train-the-trainer briefings to learn intervention content and facilitation approach.
• Provide emotional support and debriefing assistance to participants before, during, and after workshops.
• Assist the project team with on-site logistics and participant engagement as needed; and
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader.

++Major Duties and Responsibilities++

The appointee will work under the supervision of Principal Investigator Dr Polly Ma on a research project examining the effectiveness of self-compassion interventions in improving the mental health of transgender and gender diverse individuals, the appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:

• Participating in workshop sessions alongside gender minority participants;

• Undergoing “train-the-trainer” style briefings to learn the intervention content and facilitation approach;

• Providing emotional support and debriefing assistance to participants before, during, and after workshop sessions;

• Assisting the project team with on-site logistics and participant engagement as needed; and

• Performing any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his/her delegates.

He/she will be normally assigned to work less than 68 hours per four consecutive weeks.

Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:

• A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Psychology, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Public Health, or other related disciplines (or equivalent qualifications);

• Preferably a member of gender minority or LGBTQ communities;

• A background in Gender Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health, or related disciplines (current students or recent graduates are welcome);

• Empathy, cultural sensitivity, and comfort in working with diverse gender identities and expressions;

• Good communication and interpersonal skills;

• Proficiency in spoken Cantonese and/or English to facilitate effective participant interaction; and

• Availability to work primarily on weekends (session schedules will be arranged in advance).
