Job summary

City of Broken Arrow Parks and Recreation is seeking a part-time Recreation Assistant in Broken Arrow, OK. The role supports daily operation of the recreation center and nature center under supervision.

Responsibilities include facility opening/closing, member check-ins, class enrollments, room reservations, equipment setup, safety, and custodial duties. Requires high school diploma and CPR/First Aid training eligibility.

Qualifications

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by one to two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Must have or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid and Bio-hazard training on hire.

  • Maintains and updates records and passes.
  • Answers telephone and transfers calls.
  • Photographs events for newsletters and planning.
  • Maintains thermostats and clocks.
  • Performs custodial duties and restocks supplies.

Under general supervision, assists in the supervision of the day-to-day operation of the recreation center and/or nature center.

  • This position performs duties deemed to be “safety sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City’s policies*

Essential Job Functions

  • Opens recreation center and gymnasiums; resets alarm systems; opens senior center complex and other buildings.
  • Checks patrons in at the recreation center and handles handle payments from those making reservations for facilities, activities, and classes.
  • Reserves rooms and shelters for the park.
  • Sets up and takes down tables and chairs and sports equipment to accommodate various activities.
  • Demonstrates outstanding customer service skills; enrolls customers in classes, gives patrons tours of the facility.
  • Ensures the facility is safe.
  • Teaches assigned courses within the facility.
  • Maintains backup computer tape for information systems concerning server at community center.
  • Creates and updates ID cards and pool passes for patrons; maintains files and records; makes room reservations; makes shelter reservations.
  • Answers the telephone; provides information or transfer calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Photographs each event and activity for the newsletter, Facebook, and as reference for future planning.
  • Maintains electronic thermostats, alarm systems, and clocks for various buildings.
  • Feeds and waters all the animals at the Nature Center, both inside and out.
  • Sanitizes all surfaces including tables and counters, cleans recreation equipment daily, and keeps interior and exterior windows clean.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings, and address concerns with supervisors regarding equipment maintenance and membership issues.
  • Performs custodial duties; maintains and restocks supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education And Experience

Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by one to two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Must have or have the ability to obtain CPR/First Aid and Bio-hazard training courses immediately upon hire.

Physical Requirements

Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, walking, and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 50 pounds).
