Job summary

Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) seeks a Project Peer Tutor for the Student Support Services program. This part-time role provides individualized and group tutoring to help students build academic confidence in math, science, English, and related disciplines, working with the Project Director and Advisors to support first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities.

Tutors deliver in-person and virtual sessions, follow TRIO requirements, and help students develop study

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Education, Math, Science, English, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university; or a combination of equivalent education and experience
• Proficiency in using educational technology tools (e.g., Zoom, Google Suite, learning management systems)
• Demonstrated tutoring/instructional support experience in an educational setting
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 in content-related coursework and tutoring areas
• Ability to work with diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and educational backgrounds

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized and small-group tutoring in academic subjects
• Use active learning, modeling, and evidence-based instructional techniques
• Adapt tutoring methods to diverse learning styles and needs
• Assist students in developing study skills and time management
• Maintain confidential tutoring records and attendance
• Communicate progress with Project Advisors and the Project Director
• Utilize educational technology platforms for in-person and virtual sessions
• Participate in program meetings, trainings, and professional development
• Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment in line with TRIO SSS goals
