Working closely with the Project Director and Advisors, you will support the success of first‑generation, low‑income, and students with disabilities through personalized instruction, encouragement, and connection to learning resources.
The Project Peer Tutor for the Student Support Services (SSS) Program provides targeted academic assistance in core subject areas such as math, science, English, and related disciplines. This position plays a critical role in helping students improve academic performance, master course content, and develop effective learning strategies to enhance persistence and retention.
Working under the supervision of the Project Director, Student Support Services, the tutor will deliver high‑quality academic support both in‑person and virtually, ensuring compliance with federal TRIO requirements and SVCC’s mission of equitable student success.
This is a restricted, part‑time wage position located in either Keysville, VA, or Alberta, VA (home campus), with consideration of the chosen candidate’s preference, and funded through the U.S. Department of Education’s TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of federal funds. The current TRIO SSS grant is a five‑year award period running from September 25, 2025 through September 24, 2030; however, this is not a guaranteed time frame.
This position averages 10 hours per week, and Health benefits and paid leave are NOT available.
