Job summary

Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) seeks a Project Peer Tutor for the Student Support Services (SSS) Program. This part-time role provides individualized and small-group tutoring to help students build academic confidence, strengthen foundational skills, and achieve their educational goals.

Working with the Project Director and Advisors, you will support first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities through personalized instruction, encouragement, and connection to

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent education/experience in relevant fields.
• Demonstrated proficiency in tutoring or instructional support.
• Minimum GPA in related coursework and tutoring areas.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized and small-group tutoring in core subjects.
• Use active learning and evidence-based instructional techniques.
• Adapt tutoring to meet diverse learning styles and needs.
• Help students develop study skills and time management strategies.
• Maintain confidential records of tutoring sessions and progress.
• Communicate with Project Advisors and the Project Director about progress.
• Utilize educational technology to support in-person and virtual tutoring.
• Participate in program meetings, trainings, and professional development.
• Foster an inclusive learning environment aligned with TRIO SSS goals.
