Job summary

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking a part-time Community Associate to oversee the daily Payroll Window operations across DEP locations and to support payroll processing activities.

You will distribute paychecks, maintain payroll records, and liaise with the NYC Office of Payroll Administration (OPA) and DEP payroll staff. The role emphasizes courteous service, confidentiality, and accurate documentation while handling sensitive information.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
• Education and/or experience which is equivalent to '1' above.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operations of the Payroll Window.
• Distribute paychecks, reports and literature to all agency work locations. Troubleshoot any distribution issues that may arise.
• Reports to the NYC Office of Payroll Administration (OPA) to retrieve paychecks and other documentation intended for delivery to DEP as well as to deliver DEP documentation to OPA, including but not limited to check refunds.
• Serves a Liaison between OPA and DEP's Payroll Office as well as between customers coming to the Payroll Window for assistance and the other Payroll and Central Timekeeping staff.
• Maintains Payroll records for storage and easy access, including scanning documents to network and maintaining the payroll central access database.
• Provide courteous, respectful, and professional customer service.
• Exercise sound judgment and discretion with the handling of all confidential personnel information, this includes verbal, written, email, and Agency systems that contain confidential information.
