Job summary

American Family Care is seeking a Part-Time Medical Assistant to support our urgent care centers. You will blend clinical tasks with patient registration and insurance verification while maintaining high-quality care.

Expect 10–20 hours per week across 1–2 shifts, including evenings or weekends. Completion of an accredited MA program and CMA/RMA/CCMA at hire are required, with BLS and EMR experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) at hire.
• At least 1+ year of experience with insurance verification and patient registration required.
• Active BLS certification required or must be obtained within defined onboarding period.
• Urgent care or emergency room experience highly valued.
• EMR proficiency (Experity preferred); comfort with payer portals (e.g., Waystar).
• Proven venipuncture and specimen collection skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet and triage patients, collect vitals/histories, venipuncture and CLIA-waived testing, assist with minor procedures.
• Register patients, verify insurance eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile payment logs, and maintain EMR accuracy.
• Educate patients on procedures and financial expectations, provide discharge instructions, and de-escalate concerns with empathy and professionalism.
• Participate in daily huddles, maintain compliance logs (crash cart, fridge temps, etc.), support infection-control and HIPAA standards.
