Job summary

American Family Care is seeking a Part-Time Medical Assistant to support busy urgent care centers. You will blend clinical care with patient registration and insurance verification, committing to 15–20 hours per week across 1–3 shifts.

Key tasks include triage, venipuncture, point-of-care testing, EMR accuracy, and clear patient communication. Must have MA program completion, current certification, and BLS; urgent care experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) at hire.
• At least 1+ year of experience with insurance verification and patient registration required.
• Active BLS certification required or must be obtained within onboarding period.
• Urgent care or emergency room experience valued.
• EMR proficiency (Experity preferred); comfort with payer portals (Waystar).
• Proven venipuncture and specimen collection skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet and triage patients, collect vitals/histories, perform venipuncture and point-of-care testing.
• Register patients, verify insurance eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile logs, maintain EMR accuracy.
• Educate patients on clinical procedures and financial expectations; provide discharge instructions and empathetic support.
• Participate in daily huddles, maintain compliance logs, support infection-control and HIPAA standards.
