Job summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position at St. Brides Correctional Center offers flexible staffing with an average of up to 29 hours per week.

Work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, delivering evidence-based nursing care, administering medications, providing first aid, and supporting security and treatment staff to implement care plans. This wage position requires BLS, Virginia LPN licensure, and readiness to cover shifts at various times and locations.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Valid unrestricted Virginia LPN license issued by the board of nursing or a multi‑state compact license.
• Working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of practical/general nursing care.
• Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
• Ability to document, provide first aid, and carry out providers’ orders in applying treatments.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care.
• BLS certification (AHA/ARC) required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Screen sick calls, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support.
• Maintain open communication with security and treatment staff and assist in organizing treatment plans.
• Record all pertinent information into the medical record.
• Be flexible to work hours, days and locations as assigned to meet institutional needs.
