Job summary

Midtown Community School is seeking seven Literacy Tutors to support reading development in a part-time role in Kansas City, MO. Each tutor works three days per week for five hours daily, reporting to the Principal or designee.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of literacy development and Science of Reading.
  • Experience with reading and literacy preferred.
  • Excellent communication and ability to build rapport with diverse students.
  • Patience, adaptability and commitment to student success.
  • Education or literacy-focused training preferred.
  • Desire for ongoing professional development.
  • Strong organization and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to inform multiple stakeholders (parents, teachers, staff).
  • Ethical conduct and confidentiality; background check required.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize evidence-based practices to tailor lessons meeting diverse student needs.
  • Implement instructional strategies to foster reading development and confidence.
  • Assess progress regularly and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Collaborate with teachers to align tutoring with literacy goals.
  • Maintain a positive, engaging learning environment; encourage participation.
  • Provide feedback and progress reports to teachers and parents as needed.
  • Demonstrate gains in student performance.
  • Participate in meetings, training, and professional development.
  • Meet deadlines, honor schedules, and perform assigned duties.
