Job summary

Kankakee Community College is seeking a Library Technical Assistant to perform technical work in cataloging, circulation, and collections management under general supervision.

Responsibilities include maintaining textbook and reserve collections, developing records in ALMA and OCLC, assisting at the circulation desk, and supporting marketing and instructional materials. Strong English, organization, and computer skills are essential; some college-level training preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; library-related training preferred.
• At least 1–3 years of related work experience; library experience preferred.
• Computer experience using Microsoft Office or comparable applications; MS Office Specialist certification or equivalent skills.
• Strong organizational skills, flexibility, and attention to detail.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency in English.
• Ability to communicate in other languages desirable.

Responsibilities

• Maintains textbook, reserves, Health Careers/CTE, and equipment collections and inventories.
• Develops and maintains electronic and paper records; prepares reports and charts.
• Coordinates with bookstore and faculty to obtain textbooks lists; tracks budget; reports expenditures.
• Catalogs collections using ALMA and OCLC.
• Works at circulation desk providing customer service and directing inquiries.
• Performs circulation transactions and bibliographic searches; maintains patron files.
• Assists in creating instructional materials and marketing or programming tasks.
• Maintains procedures manual for acquisitions, cataloging, and related processes.
