Job summary

Prairie State College is hiring a part-time Library Circulation Assistant to support daily library operations and assist patrons with the online catalog and materials retrieval.

The role includes processing fines, supervising study spaces, shelf reading, and helping maintain library services and equipment. Strong communication and basic tech skills are required, with hours and duties arranged through the Director of Library Services.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with 2 years customer service experience.
• Ability to use the automated circulation system, online catalog and other computer-based applications.
• Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Circulates materials and equipment from the library.
• Retrieves materials from behind the circulation desk for users.
• Creates and edits PSC patron records in the circulation system.
• Assists students with using the online catalog and locating materials.
• Collects monies from library users including fines and replacement costs.
• Operates copy machines and printers and keeps them functional.
• Shelves materials and performs shelf reading daily.
• Maintains library organization and cleanliness; gathers materials for in-house use.
• Schedules and provides access to study rooms.
• Tracks daily patron count.
• Enforces library policies and coordinates with security as needed.
• Assists in the computer lab with basic tech questions.
• Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
