Job summary

Sur La Table is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support chefs, engage guests, and maintain a clean, organized kitchen environment. This role blends culinary support, customer service, and retail operations to elevate the customer experience.

Ideal candidates will have 1 year of retail and/or kitchen experience, a food handlers certificate, and a passion for community engagement. Flexible, part-time hours support weekends and evenings in our Skokie, IL location.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• 1 year retail sales experience preferred.
• 1 year food prep and/or kitchen operations experience preferred.
• Valid Food Handler's Certification.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Passion for community engagement and providing exceptional customer experiences.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and retail systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Represent Sur La Table’s brand and culture by creating memorable, educational experiences in-kitchen and on the sales floor.
• Stay current on products through available training and self-education.
• Lead a guest-focused culture to deliver exceptional customer experience in both kitchen and store areas.
• Assist chefs with class execution to drive repeat visits and positive feedback.
• Help achieve class revenue goals through high enrollment and positive reviews.
• Meet or exceed monthly sales goals contributing to store revenue.
• Set up and breakdown classes, prep mise en place, and maintain clean workstations.
• Restock, organize, and maintain kitchen supplies and tools for store readiness.
• Ensure compliance with food safety standards and local health codes.
• Maintain accurate inventory, minimize shrink, and control expenses.
• Adhere to wage/hour laws and Sur La Table SOPs.
