Responsibilities

  • Responds to inquiries and provides guidance to employees and managers on policies, procedures, handbooks, and contracts.
  • Communicates with new hires not required to attend orientation and ensures onboarding items are completed.
  • Processes general HR requests (e.g., business card requests, name tag requests).
  • Supports daily HR operations (employment verifications, tuition waivers, HR calendar, filing).
  • Updates routine correspondences and broadcasts.
  • Performs related projects and duties as assigned.

Education

Associate degree in Business, Communications, Computer Science/Technology or closely related discipline
High school diploma with two years related experience

Job description

The Human Resources Specialist provides in- person customer service to support to Ocean County College employees and the Human Resources department. This position carries out a range of routine and confidential tasks requiring an understanding of college-wide policies, procedures, and practices. This position is detail oriented, solutions driven, and strives to provide an outstanding employee experience.

The exact schedule will be set based on candidate availability and office needs. Once set this position will have a set schedule week- to - week.

Classification: Non-Affiliated Hourly

Staff Duration: Part Time 12 months

  1. Responds to inquiries and provides guidance to employees and managers regarding college policies, procedures, handbooks, and bargaining unit contracts to ensure understanding and compliance. Elevates non-routine inquiries and situations to supervisor or appropriate HR team member.
  2. Corresponds with new hires who are not required to attend orientation and ensures they complete all required onboarding items.
  3. Completes general HR Requests such as; processing business card requests, name tag requests.
  4. Supports the daily Human Resources department operations as needed by completing; employment verifications, tuition waivers, managing HR calendar and filing.
  5. Updates a variety of routine correspondences and broadcasts.
  6. Related projects, initiatives and duties as assigned.
  1. Associates Degree, preferably in Business, Communications, Computer Science/Technology or closely related discipline.
    1. In lieu of Associates Degree, a high school diploma and the addition of two years of related experience can be substituted.
  2. At least three years of directly related experience in a customer service.
  3. Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, or equivalent software.
  4. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Capable of dealing with sensitive and confidential personnel matters.
  1. Prior experience working in a higher education or public sector environment.
  2. Prior experiences working in Human Resources.
  3. Knowledge of NJ and federal employment laws and regulations.
  4. Familiarity with Human Resources technology; HRIS or ATS.
  5. Bilingual (English/Spanish).
