Job summary

Wor-Wic Community College is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support recruitment activities, manage HR data and records, and assist the senior HR leadership with department initiatives. The role requires coordinating employment life cycle, maintaining accurate records, and delivering high-level customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

Occasional evenings and overtime may be required to support college events.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in business or a related field (two years of additional related work experience can substitute).
  • Five years of related work experience, preferably in a human resources office.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office and database programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to safeguard confidential information and data.
  • Excellent customer service, writing and proofreading skills.
  • Preference given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the employment recruitment life cycle including postings, approvals, candidate screening and interview scheduling.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for the HR department, handling inquiries and directing to staff as needed.
  • Maintain recruitment, personnel, benefits, and employee changes tracking logs for reporting.
  • Process new hires, maintain personnel folders for compliance, and order name badges.
  • Coordinate retiree events and awards; prepare materials for these events.
  • Assist with staff development/training logistics and maintain training records.
  • Coordinate paperwork for safety officers and CJIS-related records.

Job description

Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a human resources generalist to provide high-level support and customer service for the human resources department by coordinating employment recruitment activities; entering, maintaining, and ensuring the accuracy and retention of human resources data and records; and assisting the senior director of human resources and vice president for human resources with department initiatives and special projects. Occasional evening and overtime work may be required to meet departmental needs and support college events and activities.

Essential Duties

The following list is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all responsibilities, skills or working conditions associated with this position.

  • Coordinates the employment recruitment life cycle by preparing fliers, advertisements, and electronic postings; obtaining approvals; conducting preliminary applicant reviews; determining interview time slots; setting the interview schedules; coordinating with search committees and leadership; communicating with applicants; moving applicants through the applicant tracking system; initiating and monitoring background checks; coordinating test and question packets; conducting reference and motor vehicle checks; and uploading documents and closing postings
  • Provides excellent customer service by serving as a primary point of contact for the human resources department; responds to telephone calls, email messages and walk-in inquiries from internal and external customers; provides general human resources information and assistance; and directs inquiries to the appropriate human resources staff member when needed
  • Maintains critical tracking logs for recruitment, hiring, personnel documents/processes, benefits, and employee changes that are used for departmental reporting and planning; creates and maintains desk procedures for assigned activities; and performs administrative duties, including filing correspondence, purging files, routing mail, completing purchase requisitions and other forms, scheduling appointments, and monitoring and ordering office supplies and contracted services
  • Processes new hires through the system; schedules new hire paperwork for temporary employees; reviews and maintains personnel folders to ensure compliance; and orders name badges
  • Coordinates annual retiree party, employee picnic and other personnel-related meetings/events; orders employee service and retirement awards, emeritus awards, and retiree gifts from the college; and prepares presentations and other materials needed for each
  • Assists in the coordination of college-wide staff development/training efforts including scheduling, room reservations and catering orders; tracks employee training through the training database, and serves as backup as needed for new employee paperwork and ID cards
  • Coordinates paperwork and application process for public safety officers to secure Guard Card certifications and maintains the FBI database and CJIS employment roster
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
  • Associate degree in business or relevant field (two years of additional related work experience can be substituted for the education requirement)

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree
Supplemental Information

This is a full-time standard support staff position with an excellent fringe benefits package including participation in the Maryland State Retirement and Pension system, which requires a 7% contribution from the employee. Days and Hours of work are Mon. - Fri., 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (1 hour lunch). Occasional evening and overtime work may be required to meet departmental needs and support college events and activities. The starting hourly rate for this position will likely range from $28.00 to $34.33 per hour depending on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
