Job summary

The University of Michigan Health-West is seeking an RN Staff Nurse for day shifts in a 0.3 FTE role. The RN will be responsible for a group of patients, applying the nursing process, and coordinating care with the health care team.

Responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, patient education, and documentation, with a focus on safety, professionalism, and quality care. Current Michigan RN licensure and BLS are required; ACLS/PALS per unit needs are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
• Michigan Registered Professional Nurse licensure required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) provider—required.
• Endoscopy RN: ACLS preferred; obtain ACLS within 60 days (unit dependent).
• Level 4/5 RN: ACLS preferred; obtain ACLS within one year.
• Level 4/5 RN: Basic cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation competence; training provided.
• Level 6: PALS preferred.
• ED: PALS preferred; ACLS within 3 months after hire; recertified every 2 years.
• IR/NEURO IR RN: ACLS within 30 days.
• Previous specialty experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient condition and discharge needs.
• Develop care plan with nursing diagnoses and outcome goals.
• Implement nursing care and physician orders.
• Establish priorities with available resources.
• Perform nursing procedures and assist physicians.
• Evaluate patient response and modify care plan as needed.
• Educate patients and families based on outcomes.
• Document information in patient care records.
• Respect patient rights and confidentiality.
• Follow safety standards and manage emergencies.
• Maintain knowledge base and standards of practice.
• Demonstrate professionalism in practice and scheduling.
• Pursue ongoing education and staff development.
• Participate in quality assurance and standards development.
• Coordinate and organize patient care delivery; delegate appropriately.
• Monitor staffing and adjust as needed; support unit operations.
• Engage in problem solving and effective decision making.
• Communicate clearly to achieve patient and department goals.
• Support department leadership in coverage and workflow.
