Somerset County of Maine is seeking a Part-Time Janitorial/Custodial Assistant to maintain cleanliness and order in county buildings including the Courthouse and Emergency Operations Center. The role is non-exempt with flexible 20 hours per week and a current budgeted wage of $17.50 per hour.

Under the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, duties include daily cleaning, restroom maintenance, room setup for meetings, and ensuring secure building access. Background checks required.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Must pass a criminal background check.
• Experience in janitorial duties.
• Basic skills to use cleaning tools and materials.
• Ability to work independently and handle interruptions.
• Maintain confidentiality around professional activities.
• Good interpersonal skills with County staff.
• Dependable and punctual with work schedule.

Responsibilities

• Vacuum and dust daily.
• Clean bathrooms (Floors and fixtures).
• Wash windows (exterior twice per year).
• Wash floors and doors as needed.
• Empty wastebaskets daily.
• Set up and break down meeting rooms for department meetings.
• Ensure the courtroom is prepared for court days.
• Stock juror bathrooms, empty trash, and clean the judge's chambers as needed.
• Sweep and mop courtroom hallways and stairways.
• Review and maintain cleaning supplies.
• Lock exterior doors if last to leave the building.
