Job summary

The Houston Area Women’s Center is seeking a Part-time Crisis Response Advocate to support survivors of domestic and sexual violence. You will provide crisis intervention, emotional support, safety planning, and information & referral at hospitals, via hotlines and chat, while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field, two years in social services, bilingual English/Spanish preferred, and proficiency with MS

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field (psychology, counseling, public health, sociology, social work, criminal justice).
  • Two years of experience in a social services setting or equivalent.
  • English or bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hospital accompaniment, crisis intervention, emotional support, case management, information & referral to survivors.
  • Support survivors via 24 crisis hotline and chat while on standby for hospital visits.
  • Conduct danger assessment and create safety plans with high-risk survivors.
  • Coordinate shelter placement and emergency transportation as needed.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and trainings with management.
  • Report suspected abuse/neglect to Child/Adult Protective Services when appropriate.
  • Maintain inventory of information packets and clothing for clients.

As the Part-time Crisis Response Advocate, you will provide crisis intervention, emotional support, danger assessment, safety planning, shelter placement, and information and referral to domestic and sexual violence survivors through hospital accompaniment, 24-hour hotlines, and chat.Your Schedule:Part TimeSaturday and Sunday7 a.m. – 6 p.m.20 hours per weekWork Model: HybridLocal Travel: 100%, as needed for hospital accompaniment while on shift.Our Total Rewards Package:At the Houston Area Women's Center, we are committed to supporting our employees with a comprehensive Total Rewards Package that promotes health, financial well-being, and work-life balance.Hourly Compensation: $18.04Pay Schedule: Semi-monthlyMedical, Dental, Vision, Life, and Disability InsuranceTime Away From Work Program, including:Vacation Leave based on relevant professional experience (15–30 days annually for full-time employees; prorated for eligible part-time employees)Sick Leave (112 hours annually for full-time employees; prorated for eligible part-time employees)Eleven (11) Observed Agency Holidays. If the observed holiday falls on an employee’s regularly scheduled day off, the employee is not eligible for holiday pay.401(k) Retirement Plan with a 125% employer match on employee contributions up to 4% of annual earnings for eligible full-time employees after one year of serviceVacation and sick leave eligibility, accruals, usage, rollover limits, holiday eligibility, and all benefit programs are administered in accordance with HAWC policies and applicable plan documents.The Requirements We are Seeking:Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences Psychology, Counseling, Public Health, Sociology, Social Work, Criminal Justice.Two years of experience working within a social services setting or comparable.English or Bilingual (English / Spanish) preferred.Intermediate Proficiency within Microsoft Office specifically Excel and Outlook and internal database programs.You have a valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record; reliable transportation; ability to travel to off-site locations utilizing personal transportation.What you Deliver in this role:You will provide hospital accompaniment, crisis intervention, emotional support, case management, information & referral, education, support, and advocacy to survivors of domestic and sexual violence at local hospitals and via nurse line as neededYou will provide crisis intervention, emotional support, case management, information & referral, education, support, and advocacy to survivors of domestic and sexual violence via 24 crisis hotline and chat as needed while on standby for hospital visits.You will conducts danger assessment and creates safety plans with survivors in high risk casesYou will communicate with on-call staff including Supervisors, Crisis Hotline/Chat Counselors, SANE nurses, law enforcement, and community partnersYou will coordinate shelter placement and emergency transportation of clients as needed with Hotline and Shelter team.You will attend mandatory monthly meetings and trainings with Manager of Hospital Accompaniment & Crisis Intervention Services, All Department Staff Meetings and/or meet as assignedYou will mandatory Reporting: report suspected and prior abuse/neglect to either Child Protective services or Adult Protective Service when appropriateYou will maintain sufficient inventory at all times while on-shift of information packets and clothing for clients. Supplies provided by agency.Other duties/projects may be assigned.
