Houston Area Women's Center is seeking a Bilingual Crisis Hotline Counselor- Sexual Assault to provide real-time support to survivors through hotline and hospital services. The role includes intakes, crisis intervention, safety planning, and coordination with a multidisciplinary team.

The ideal candidate is bilingual (English/Spanish), has strong communication skills, a high school diploma with college enrollment in relevant fields, and some social services experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months of social service, customer service, or call-center experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Teams, Outlook).
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Valid Texas driver’s license with reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, information, and referrals to survivors via hotlines and hospital accompaniment.
• Travel to local hospitals to offer face-to-face support and deliver supplies.
• Collaborate with medical staff, social workers, and law enforcement to deliver a full spectrum of services.
• Conduct danger assessments and develop safety plans tailored to each client.
• Screen for shelter needs and coordinate placement and emergency transport.
• Make CPS/APS reports as required and maintain accurate records.
• Communicate with on-call staff, leadership, and hotline teams about cases.
• Attend monthly meetings and trainings related to crisis intervention services.
• Conduct intakes and assessments to determine next steps and complete required documentation.

As the Bilingual Crisis Hotline Counselor- Sexual Assault is a critical role within the Houston Area Women’s Center that provides real-time support to clients in immediate need. The Bilingual Crisis Hotline Counselor- Sexual Assault conducts intakes and assessments to provide a full spectrum of services in collaboration with programs across the agency. The Bilingual Crisis Hotline Counselor-Sexual Assault is responsible for conducting crisis intervention, emotional support, hospital accompaniment, danger assessment, safety planning, shelter placement, information, and referral to domestic and sexual violence survivors through two 24-hour crisis hotlines.Your Schedule:Full TimeMonday - Friday from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.On call one week per month as assignedWork Model: hybridLocal Travel: 5%Our Total Rewards Package:At the Houston Area Women's Center, we are committed to supporting our employees with a comprehensive Total Rewards Package that promotes health, financial well-being, and work-life balance.Hourly Compensation:$19.23Pay Schedule: Semi-monthlyMedical, Dental, Vision, Life, and Disability InsuranceTime Away From Work Program, including:Vacation Leave based on relevant professional experience (15–30 days annually for full-time employees; prorated for eligible part-time employees)Sick Leave (112 hours annually for full-time employees; prorated for eligible part-time employees)Eleven (11) Paid Agency Holidays for eligible employees who are regularly scheduled to work on the observed holiday401(k) Retirement Plan with a 125% employer match on employee contributions up to 4% of annual earnings for eligible full-time employees after one year of service**Vacation and sick leave eligibility, accruals, usage, rollover limits, holiday eligibility, and all benefit programs are administered in accordance with HAWC policies and applicable plan documents.The Requirements We are Seeking:High School diploma or equivalentIs actively enrolled in college with a major in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Public Health, Counseling, Communications, or Business Administration.A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Public Health, Counseling, Communications, or Business Administration, strongly preferred.A minimum of 6 months of experience working within a social service, customer service, or call-center setting.Proficient experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Teams, and Outlook).Computer savvy and able to learn new applications and technologies quickly.Bilingual in both English and Spanish and can read, write, and speak both languages fluently.You have a valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record; reliable transportation; ability to travel to off-site locations utilizing personal transportation.What you Deliver in this role:Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, information & referral, education, support, and advocacy to survivors of domestic and sexual violence via the sexual assault and domestic violence hotlines and hospital accompaniment program during scheduled hours and on-call as scheduledTravel to local hospitals to provide face to face support services and deliver supplies including information packets and clothing.Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team including medical staff, social workers, and law enforcement to provide a full spectrum of services to survivors and their friends and families.Conducts danger assessments with survivors and creates safety plans based on each client’s individual case and needs.Provide shelter screenings and coordination of shelter placement and emergency transportation of clients.Make CPS and APS reports as required and needed.Keeps accurate client and hotline data/records for monthly reports.Communicate with on-call staff including Supervisors, hospital accompaniment counselors, and community partners.Communicate with HAWC’s answering service to relay and respond to messages.Communicate with leadership and other Hotline staff on the team regarding case management and other issues.Attend mandatory monthly meetings and training with the Hotline & Crisis Intervention Services Coordinator, All Department Staff Meetings, and/or meet as assigned.Conducts intakes and assesses the client's need to determine next steps and processes appropriate documentation: Housing Assessment, EPA Assessment, Lease Termination, Good Cause, Address Confidentiality, Utility Waivers, and Legal Referrals.Provides counseling intakes for critical client cases to provide support to the Behavioral Health Department.Other duties/projects may be assigned.What Skills and Assets you bring, and more:Excellent attention to detailsDemonstration of professional objectivity and appreciation for confidential informationAbility to follow instructions and to adhere to policies and proceduresAbility to prioritize tasks to meet individual and team deadlinesHas a growth mindset and is a good team playerStrong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.When you work here at HAWC you make an impact not just in the lives of the survivors and the people you help, but also make an impact in our own lives and our community.
