Job summary

The City of West Allis is seeking a Community Service Officer for a part-time, unarmed, uniformed civilian role. You will support sworn personnel, monitor the desk, and handle low-priority calls while pursuing a law‑enforcement career.

Candidates must have a high school diploma, be 18+, enrolled in a law‑enforcement degree program, and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license. Flexible scheduling (nights/weekends) is required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Enrolled in Criminal Justice, Police Science, or related degree program.
  • Valid WI Driver’s License with a good driving record.
  • Ability to keyboard/type at 30 words per minute.
  • Competent with Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Successful background check and medical/drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Staff and monitor the front complaint desk.
  • Take walk-in complaints and document them.
  • Assist sworn personnel with crash and crime scenes.
  • Fingerprint citizens and applicants.
  • Operate office software to write incident reports.
  • Deliver and gather supplies; assist with cell block detainees.
  • Provide traffic direction for accidents and road hazards.
  • Testify in court and enforce parking regulations.
  • Provide security for events such as parades.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent
Currently enrolled in Criminal Justice/Police Science degree program
