Job summary

The City of West Allis is seeking applicants for the position of police officer to establish an eligibility list for current and future vacancies. Applicants must be certified in Wisconsin or eligible for a waiver under LESB policy and must meet education requirements by January 1, 2027.

Selected candidates will undergo a multi-stage evaluation including physical readiness, background checks, and oral interviews.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years or older by date of hire.
• U.S. citizen.
• Certified/LESB credentials: Wisconsin LESB 720-hour preparatory academy or eligible waiver.
• Education by Jan 1, 2027: Bachelor's or Associate or 60 credits in related field.

Responsibilities

• Stop vehicles to investigate, cite or arrest occupants.
• Direct traffic at accidents, parades, crime scenes and for emergency vehicles.
• Assist paramedics and EMTs with treatment of injured or ill people.
• Interview complainants, witnesses, drivers, and explain nature of offenses.
• Maintain equipment and vehicles, report any deficiencies to supervisor.

Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice

Associates Degree in Police Science

Sixty college credits in Police Science/Criminal Justice
