Job summary

Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) seeks a part-time Certified Nursing Assistant/HST at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay. The role provides compassionate, person-centered care, assisting residents with daily living activities while emphasizing safety and quality of care.

Shifts rotate day and evening (7:00am-3:30pm, 3:00pm-11:30pm). Part-time position, rotating hours; AFSCME union; eligible for a $2,500 new-hire bonus for part-time AFSCME roles.

Qualifications

• Current registration as a Nursing Assistant with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) Nursing Assistant Registry.
• Be willing and able to enroll in the Veterans home’s Nursing Assistant training course at the time of hire; complete within four months.
• Have completed a Nursing Assistant training course and competency test and become registered within four months; provide score report.
• Ability to communicate effectively, follow instructions, and take clear notes.
• Current registration as a Nursing Assistant with the MDH Nursing Assistant Registry (preferred).
• Experience as a certified nursing assistant (preferred).
• Experience providing activities of daily living (ADLs) (preferred).
• Experience in a long-term care environment (preferred).
• CPR/BLS certification (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, person-centered care for residents in a long‑term nursing facility.
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) and maintain safety and quality of care.
• Support residents to attain their highest functional capabilities in a caring environment.
• Follow facility protocols and document resident status and needs.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and respectful living environment for residents.
