Job summary

Cecil County Public Library in Perryville, MD is seeking a Library Associate II to provide high-quality information, reader, and technology services to children ages birth-11, families, and caregivers. This part-time position (25 hours/week) involves collaboration with the Children’s Services team, maintaining the juvenile collection, and promoting library programs to the community,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college.
• Within two years of appointment, complete in-service training or nine credit hours in library science.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
• Previous experience working with children ages birth-11.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive environment.
• Ability to maintain composure in a changing public-facing environment.
• Knowledge of Windows OS, internet resources, social media and related technologies.
• Willingness to acquire knowledge of library computer systems and applications.
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and travel between branches.

Responsibilities

• Provides information services to children, families and caregivers in person, by phone, email, or online.
• Plan and implement library programs for children birth-11 and collaborate with system-wide teams.
• Develop outreach and collaborative programming with schools and community organizations.
• Market library services and merchandise collections to parents/caregivers.
• Maintain juvenile collection and assist in material purchases.
• Utilize the circulation database to place holds for patrons.
• Represent the branch on the system-wide children's services team.
• Maintain library computers and software, troubleshooting as needed.
• Maintain facility and report problems; keep accurate service statistics.
• Shelve materials and perform related duties; support various library projects.
