Job summary

Akron Area YMCA in Akron, OH is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support the lead teacher in caring for preschool and school-age children. You will help with meals, naps, safety, and daily activities while embodying the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith.

This PT non-exempt role requires a high school diploma and offers hands-on training, reliable teamwork, and opportunities to observe children’s development.

Qualifications

• Must qualify under Ohio Department of Job and Family Services stipulations.
• High school diploma or equivalent; college transcripts preferred.
• Background checks and licensing requirements must be completed.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with activities including meals, snacks and naptime.
• Maintain a safe, clean classroom and center at all times.
• Support behavior guidance and learning through interaction and lesson plans.
• Help maintain licensing records and tracking for USDA funding.
• Attend staff meetings and complete required trainings within deadlines.
• Attend to toileting, diaper changes, and feeding when needed.
• Ensure compliance with ODJFS and Step Up to Quality standards.
