Job summary

YMCA of Memphis & The Mid-South is seeking an Assistant Teacher for the Early Learning Center on a part-time basis. The role assists with supervising a group of children, implements age-appropriate activities, and supports classroom staff within a DHS-compliant environment.

The position requires at least a high school diploma, experience with young children, and current first-aid/CPR certifications. Flexible schedule and site-wide collaboration are emphasized.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• One or more years of experience working with children ages five years and younger.
• Current state approved first-aid certification.
• Current state approved infant/child (or community if school aged) CPR certification.
• TB test or signed statement from a medical provider showing negative results for tuberculosis.
• Medical Physical Exam- Required by DHS
• Completion of minimum STARS required training
• Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
• Must meet all other required qualifications set by DHS - child care licensing

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teachers and lead teachers in areas including planning and implementation of age-appropriate classroom activities.
• Provide excellent and nurturing care to all children in the classroom.
• Maintain accurate rosters of children and assist with sign-in/out.
• Ensure the daily schedule is followed and communicate with parents via reports.
• Maintain safe and orderly program spaces and supervise meals and snacks.
• Comply with risk management standards and DHS licensing requirements.
