Job summary

Chesapeake Regional Healthcare in Chesapeake, VA is seeking a Central Scheduler II to schedule and register outpatient diagnostic testing and surgery/endoscopy, while supporting department operations and maintaining exceptional patient service.

You will interview patients, coordinate with physicians and staff, ensure HIPAA compliance, and use our scheduling software to manage complex procedures, with accuracy targets and timely communication.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 3+ years' experience as Administrative Assistant, Medical Secretary, or Scheduler; acute care setting preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of medical terminology.
• Experience in an acute care setting preferred.
• Strong computer skills in a Windows PC environment; able to operate fax, copy, scanner and Windows-based computer functions.
• Certification such as HFMA, NAHAM, or AAHAM recommended; must obtain within 24 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and register outpatient diagnostic testing and/or surgery/endoscopy procedures.
• Respond to phone calls and faxes regarding scheduling and registration.
• Interview patients and collect demographic information.
• Advise patients on outpatient testing preparation per protocol.
• Ensure HIPAA compliance and follow department policies.
• Coordinate with ancillary departments for complex procedures.
• Use scheduling software and coordinate multiple tests with staff.
• Interpret physician orders and schedule appropriate testing.
• Maintain productivity and accuracy targets.
