Job summary

Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) is seeking a part-time Peer Mentor for the Program for Successful Employment (PSE) and BEARS Comprehensive Transition Program (CTP). The role provides academic, social, and campus integration support to students with cognitive and developmental disabilities, under program staff guidance.

Ideal candidates are current college students in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or related fields and have experience working with diverse populations.

Qualifications

• Open to all fields of study; preference for Education, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Rehabilitation Services, or related field.
• Experience with diverse populations or individuals with disabilities preferred.
• Experience in tutoring, mentoring, or peer support is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Accompany students to classes, campus activities, and program-related events to support engagement and participation.
• Assist students with note-taking, assignments, organization, and understanding course expectations.
• Support students in navigating campus resources, schedules, and daily responsibilities.
• Encourage participation in campus activities, social events, and student engagement opportunities.
• Model appropriate academic, social, and workplace behaviors.
• Communicate with program staff regarding student progress, concerns, and support needs.
• Other duties as assigned.
