Job summary

Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) is hiring a part-time Peer Mentor to assist students in the Program for Successful Employment (PSE) and BEARS Comprehensive Transition Program (CTP). You will provide academic, social, and campus integration support to students with cognitive and developmental disabilities, helping with coursework navigation, campus engagement, and independence.

Qualifications

• Open to all fields of study; preference may be given to students in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Rehabilitation Services, or a related field with an interest in supporting individuals with disabilities.
• Experience working with diverse populations or individuals with disabilities preferred.
• Experience in tutoring, mentoring, or peer support is a plus.
• A combination of relevant education, professional training, and directly related experience may be substituted for the required education and experience, provided the applicant demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

Responsibilities

• Accompany students to classes, campus activities, and program-related events to support engagement and participation.
• Assist students with note-taking, assignments, organization, and understanding course expectations.
• Support students in navigating campus resources, schedules, and daily responsibilities.
• Encourage participation in campus activities, social events, and student engagement opportunities.
• Model appropriate academic, social, and workplace behaviors.
• Communicate with program staff regarding student progress, concerns, and support needs.
