Job summary

Seattle YMCA is hiring for a part-time onsite BASE instructor to guide elementary students after school. You will support the program supervisor, teach teamwork and social-emotional skills, and help run recess-based activities2-4 days weekly at school sites.

Base leads start 8/17. The role offers a YMCA membership, health insurance options, retirement contributions, mental health resources, PTO, and program discounts. Must be 18+ with relevant experience.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• 2+ years’ experience with children in camps, child care, tutoring, or nannying.
• Model Y values: caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
• Experience planning and implementing group activities.
• Completed 12 college credits and GED or high school diploma.
• Completion of minimum STARS required training; CPR/First aid certification.
• TB tests and MMR vaccination required; Concentra options provided.
• Food worker card and MERIT background check required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities within the Y curriculum.
• Supervise children to ensure health and safety and positive experiences.
• Provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing groups of children.
• Communicate with parents about day-to-day, confidential information.
• Follow YMCA policies including medical, discipline, and safety procedures.
• Maintain site appearance, décor and cleanliness.
• Assist with snacks and snack area cleanliness.
• Check in/out for parents and support Play Everyday Program at school.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; perform other duties as assigned.
