Job summary

California State University, Monterey Bay is seeking an hourly Interpreter/Realtime Captioner to provide in-person and remote interpreting for classroom lectures, workshops, and campus events. The role requires translating between English and American Sign Language with accurate conveyance of tone and content.

The position is part-time hourly with duties including training, record-keeping, and possible evenings or weekends, contingent on campus needs.

Qualifications

• Two years of relevant documented interpreting experience.
• Strong knowledge of ASL and sign language systems.
• Ability to convey register, tone, and content accurately across settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person and remote interpreting for lectures and presentations from English into ASL or other sign systems.
• Translate responses from sign language into spoken English.
• Cover short‑term assignments, conferences, and meetings with accurate interpretation.
• Interpret at events such as field trips, housing, and residence life activities.
• Maintain monthly hours, prep time, and client records as required.
