Job summary

The Greater Austin YMCA is seeking an Afterschool Youth Development Leader for a seasonal, part-time role. You will create a safe, engaging after-school environment for ages 4–12, delivering activities that support academic and social-emotional growth.

Locations include Austin, Manor, and Kyle/Buda areas. Shifts run weekdays 2:00 PM–6:30 PM during the school year, with weekends off and a free YMCA membership. Join a supportive team dedicated to youth well-being and learning.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age with a high school degree or equivalent.
• Availability to work Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM -- 6:30 PM.
• A minimum of one year of experience in camps, childcare programs, or similar environments is preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and engage youth in activities to promote learning, creativity, teamwork and growth.
• Supervise groups of children, ensuring safety and positive participation per YMCA policies.
• Foster social-emotional development and model YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, responsibility.
• Create an inclusive, welcoming environment where participants feel valued and supported.
• Follow curriculum and plans while adapting activities to participant needs.
• Communicate updates and concerns effectively with families and staff.
• Support snack time with proper sanitation and safety standards.
• Handle attendance, prep, documentation, and other program logistics.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
• Represent the YMCA's mission positively within the community.
