Job summary

Greater Austin YMCA is seeking an Afterschool Counselor for a seasonal, part-time role in the Kyle/Buda area, with weekday afternoons from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM. The position focuses on leading activities, ensuring safety, and supporting youth development within YMCA guidelines.

Eligibility includes being 18+, having a high school diploma or equivalent, and a preference for 1+ year of childcare experience. A free YMCA membership is included as a perk.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Availability to work Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
• Minimum one year of experience in camps, childcare programs, or similar environments is preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to lead with a positive, service-oriented attitude.

Responsibilities

• Lead youth in activities such as games, arts and crafts, STEM projects, and outdoor play to promote learning and growth.
• Supervise groups of children, ensure safety, and follow YMCA policies and childcare standards.
• Foster social-emotional development by modeling YMCA values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
• Create a welcoming, inclusive environment and follow curriculum and lesson plans.
• Communicate effectively with children, families, and staff and provide updates as needed.
• Manage snack time, attendance, and program administration; participate in trainings and staff meetings.
