Job summary

City Center YMCA is hiring a Part-Time Before & After Care Associate. The role supports Y youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility by guiding children, implementing curriculum, and fostering achievement and belonging.

Duties include supervision, parent communication, and maintaining safety and records. Ideal candidates will have child-related education or experience and be able to engage families and volunteers.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED with multiple college credit/experience pathways in ECE or human services.
• Additional background checks and clearances are required for employment.
• Relevant child safety training and certifications may be required by local regulations.
• Experience with young children and families supports effective program delivery.
• Commitment to safety, supervision, and positive interactions with children.

Responsibilities

• Implements purposeful programming and curriculum within guidelines, prepared in advance.
• Supervises children and classroom activities, following procedures and standards.
• Guides children in developmentally appropriate play and routines.
• Makes observations and evaluations to tailor activities to individuals and groups.
• Provides positive feedback to redirect challenging behaviors.
• Builds relationships with families, conducts conferences, and engages parents as volunteers.
• Maintains program site and equipment according to standards.
• Ensures a safe, healthy environment and follows safety procedures.
• Maintains required program records and trainings for licensing and policies.
• Attends family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and trainings.
• Communicates with supervisor and coworkers to improve programs.
• Reports suspected abuse per law and YMCA policy.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or GED + 30 credit hours in early childhood education / human services

High school diploma or GED + 600+ hours of secondary training (3270.31(c))

High school diploma or GED + 15 credits in ECE / child development + 1 year of experience

High school diploma or GED + post-secondary training curriculum (3270.31 (c))

High school diploma or GED + 2 years documented experience with children

State Police, Child Abuse, NSOR and FBI clearances

Mandated Reporter training certification

Pediatric First Aid/CPR and AED certification
