Job summary

OSU Disability Access Services at Oregon State University is seeking a part-time Accessible Formats Student Assistant to help convert textbooks, documents, and multimedia into accessible formats such as tactile graphics, braille, large print, audio, and HTML to ensure inclusive access for all students.

The role collaborates with faculty, staff, and students, uses screen readers and OCR tools, and maintains records to ensure outputs meet WCAG 2.1 AA and ADA standards.

Qualifications

• Must be academically enrolled in a college program.
• Must meet enrollment standards for term.
• Must meet minimum credit hours per term for learner status.
• Maintain accurate records of requests and timelines.
• Ensure all materials meet accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA, ADA, Section 508).
• Complete DAS training pathway before advancing.

Responsibilities

• Convert documents into accessible formats (Braille, large print, tactile graphics, HTML, audio).
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to identify needs for accessible formats.
• Use assistive technology tools such as screen readers, braille translation software, and OCR tools.
• Maintain records of requests, production timelines, and completed materials.
• Ensure all materials meet accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA, ADA, Section 508).
• Assist in testing and reviewing digital content for accessibility compliance.
